7. Etnography and Traditions in Segovia

In theprovince of Segovia has alwaysbeenshown a strongattachment to traditionsand customs,that are part of theidentity of itspeople. Music, Jotas, the “paloteos” danceare anessentialpart of ourpeoples’ festivities. In order to preserve our popular culture, variousmuseums and interpretation centers emerged:the Center forInterpretation of Folklore and Popular Culture of San Pedro de Gaillos; PedagogicalMuseum “TheLastSchool” in Otones of Benjumea, wherewerelivedthememories of allwhowentto schoolbeforethe EGB and neverimagined a digital whiteboard. Also in Otones, theEthnographicMuseumdisplaysancientobjects, related to agricultural and livestockwork, trades, home supplies, traditionalgames…In Navafría, theEthnographicMuseum “El Martinete”thanks to thetenacity of thefamilyAbánispreserved a pylonhammer to beat copper, magnificentexponent of theIndustrial Heritage in Segovia.
