2. Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de el Escorial

The Royal Monastery of Saint Lorenzo de El Escorial, better known as El Escorial, was built in the 2nd half of the 16th century by Philip II of Spain. It is about 60km far from Segovia. The palace-monastery complex was built by Juan Bautista de Toledo and Juan de Herrera. The huge building owns a Monastery, a School, an impressive Basilica, The Royal Pantheon, the Royal Library and the Royal Palace. It was used by the kings of Spain as a palace and Royal Pantheon.
