3. Pedraza, Sepúlveda and the Duratón canyon natural park

Atractionswall, Romanesque, lamb, vultures, royal eagles, griffon vultures.

On top of a hill, surrounded by savins and holm oaks, the silhouette of Pedraza de la Sierra appears. A walled and paved medieval town of nobles and lords, where the smell and taste of the Middle Ages still remains. Passing through the only gate of its walls invites you to travel to the times of splendor of the Villa, those in which the wool of merino sheep exported to northern Europe, allowed its people to accumulate wealth and raise houses and palaces worthy of admiration; its porticated square, a Castilian whim where there are them, its churches and its castle, denote today an undoubted sign of identity.

Visiting Pedraza during the first two Saturdays of July, it will be a pleasure for the senses, contemplating the medieval ensemble, illuminated only with candles.

Located between the hills of Somosierra and La Picota, Sepúlveda shows us its beauty on top. Seven gates on its wall with its seven keys, give way to the medieval essence of the lavish historical complex, in which the steep towers of its churches remind us that here was born the Segovian Romanesque. Downstream of Sepúlveda, the Natural Park of the “Hoces of the Duratón River“, will show us nature in its purest form; native vegetation, griffon vultures, alimoches, royal eagles…. will be in freedom, in this unique place, in which art, history, archaeology and natural phenomenon are combined in a special way.

A stop on the way to replenish your strength will force us to enter into one of the prestigious restaurants in the area, to taste a good roasted lamb from the land.
