10. Santa Teresa de Jesús and San Juan de la Cruz

Atractions: San Juan de la Cruz, San Joseph convent, religious foundations, convents, Saint Joseph convent, foundation saint Theresa.

This tour allows us to discover some places that saint Theresa knew in Segovia, where she founded, along with her confessor  St. Juan de la Cruz, the Convent of San Joseph on March 19, 1574.

Beginning at the Roman aqueduct, close to the old and disappeared Mesón del Aceite, where saint Theresa was housed when she arrived in the city, the old convent of Carmelite Order, Main street, Marqués del Arco street where the courtyard of the Foundation’s house is located and place for St. Juan de la Cruz first mass in Segovia, the convent of Saint Joseph of Barefoot Carmelite Order, first foundation of Saint Theresa and where the Saint confessed to the nuns every day. After the confessions, he returned through the winding road that bears his name to the convent where he lived on the banks of the river Eresma, the convent of the Barefoot Carmelites. This convent was founded by him and it is told that he helped his friaries to build it. Inside one of the chapels remain his relics.
